Wyoming, MI -- Conference play in the OK Bronze started on Tuesday as the Huskies played the Wolves of Wyoming. The newest addition to the conference, replacing West Catholic. The game was initially dubbed as a double header, but was shortened to one due to weather and field conditions. Senior Jackson Shaver started on the bump for the Huskies, pitching a complete game and earned the Huskies their first conference win. A pitching duel throughout the game, due to high winds and cold temperatures, kept the game interesting and fast. Wyoming pitcher James Watkins also had a solid game, pitching a complete game and allowing just two runs. The Huskies and the Wolves will play a doubleheader on Thursday.
Holland, MI -- This past weekend, the Huskies competed in the Martin E. Ball Memorial Tournament at West Ottawa High School. The Huskies opened the tournament against the Allendale Falcons. Brett Bujdos had a solid game, pitching 6.0 innings and three earned runs. After a few big innings, the Huskies led 5-0. The Falcons scored three unanswered to make it 5-3. Sophomore James Ruotsala closed the game out in the top of the 7th to defeat the Falcons.
The Huskies played their second game at 2 p.m. against the West Ottawa Panthers. A pitching duel ensued, matching senior Steven Sprague and West Ottawa's Jack Tomcalla. The Huskies scored Quinton O'Connor on a past ball in the third, and the Panthers answered back with a run of their own during the fifth. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Panthers hit a double and advanced him over with bunt. With a man on and a man out, third baseman Jake Duckworth hit a sacrifice fly to left fielder Sam Schellenberg, that scored the winning run. The Huskies open conference play on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Wyoming. |
